An Introduction to Electronic Content Management
We live in an information age where the amount of content we
create every 2 days is equivalent to all the content created from the dawn of
man until 2003- and it’s accelerating. Within an organization the task of
organizing and managing this content while reducing the friction between
creators and consumers can be quite daunting. In this session we’ll take
a step back and look at how content management has progressed over time.
Our emergence into the digital age has both led to an explosion of content as
well as industry specific terms and idioms for managing this content.
We’ll look at some of these common facets of ECM from many different views and
discuss some common goals when applying a technology solution in this
domain. Finally, we will talk about Microsoft’s “ECM
for the Masses” vision and look at some product specific features that are
available within the various versions of SharePoint.
